Adam + Mary ~ The Inn at St. Johns

This wedding was different on so many levels, but different in very good ways. It was a wedding I was incredibly excited about since it was my brother-in-law’s fall wedding in Michigan. It offered so many new photographic opportunities that I typically do not have with Southern California weddings.

I want to clarify by saying that I was not the only photographer. It would be pretty difficult to be part of the wedding party and also be the photographer. However, I did get to take quite a few of the pictures and was honored with the amount of freedom Mary and Adam allowed me. Since they’re family, they’re quite familiar with my style and were more than happy to be outside in the brisk and breezy weather so I could get just the right bride and groom portraits.
The Inn is a gorgeous location for a wedding, and I’m not sure there is a venue comparable to it in the LA area. It has a hotel, several ballrooms, a Catholic chapel, and a golf course all on the same grounds. The architecture and foliage around the property were perfect backdrops to photos I wanted to take. Since my family and I also stayed at the Inn, I had plenty of days before the wedding to scope out my locations for certain shots.

Mary looked ravishing in her Annasul Y bridal gown with her beaded bracelet and hair pieces to complement the delicate detailing on her dress. Perhaps her most notable fashion items were her Manolo Blahnik heels that also doubled as her “something blue”. She also chose a popular fall color pallette for her bridal party, purple and gray, but mixed it up a bit and allowed her bridesmaids to choose whatever style gown they’d like in whatever hue of purple or gray they preferred (writer’s credit – Jackie Charrow). It allowed for more diversity and comfort for her bridesmaids, and added some character to the pictures. The men had details as well, with our gray suits, purple paisley ties, and argyle socks.
I tried to take advantage of the changing colors of fall as much as possible with our outside pictures. We went to a couple locations at a park near downtown Plymouth and got some great pictures with the natural browns, yellows, and oranges as accents.

Overall, it was an amazing wedding weekend and Mary and Adam were so much fun to shoot, as well as the rest of the incredible bridal party! I’m so glad I was able to photograph this wedding and also be a part of it.
